„New Neighbours“ mobilisiert und vernetzt Akteure der Medien und der Zivilgesellschaft, um das interkulturelle Verständnis zwischen Migrant*innen und Aufnahmegesellschaften in Europa zu verbessern.  Das Projekt wird von der Europäischen Kommission gefördert und von der Europäischen Rundfunkunion (European Broadcasting Union – EBU) koordiniert.

Aktivitäten
Eine der zentralen Projektaktivitäten liegt in der Gestaltung öffentlich-rechtlicher TV-Programme, die das Zusammenleben von eingesessenen und zugewanderten Nachbarn im Alltag beleuchten. Die Sendungen beschäftigen sich mit den Herausforderungen der Integration und veranschaulichen, wie Migrant*innen und Flüchtlinge zum kulturellen und wirtschaftlichen Leben lokaler Gemeinschaften beitragen. Das Projekt baut die  Dokumentarfilmreihe „New Neighbours“ weiter aus, die als Koproduktion von EBU-Mitgliedern in der Europäischen Union entstanden ist. Neun EBU-Mitglieder beteiligen sich nun an der Erstellung der mittlerweile dritten Staffel. Die neue Serie wird voraussichtlich im November 2019 veröffentlicht.

Darüber hinaus werden von den Projektpartnern vielfältige Aktivitäten gesetzt, um die mediale Präsenz von Migrant*innen und geflüchteten Menschen zu fördern, deren Beteiligung an Medienproduktionen voranzutreiben, Medienkompetenzen zu vermitteln und die öffentliche Mitsprache zu erleichtern. Neben der Entwicklung innovativer interkulturelle Formate werden Unterstützungskampagnen gestartet und eine Wissensplattform aufgebaut. Nicht zuletzt will das Projekt die Zusammenarbeit von öffentlich-rechtlichen Rundfunkanstalten, zivilgesellschaftlichen Organisationen und Community Medien stärken.

New Neighbours [English]

“New Neighbours” aims to mobilise media and civil society actors to foster greater intercultural understanding between migrants and host communities in Europe. The project is co-financed by the European Commission and coordinated by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

Activities
One of the key activities is the creation of public service programmes which show the complexity and challenges of integration and highlight the positive contribution made by migrants to the economies and cultures of host countries and local societies. The project builds on the success of “New Neighbours”, a documentary film series conceived as a co-production between EBU members in the European Union. Nine EBU members are now taking part in the third season's production. The new collection of TV documentaries is expected to be released in November 2019.

In addition, the project partners set a variety of activities and measures, in particular to promote the direct participation of migrants and refugees in public and community media production, to facilitate community engagement through media skills training and to support CSO advocacy campaigns. Furthermore, a knowledge platform will be set up and innovative intercultural formats will be developed. Last but not least, the project aims to strengthen the networking and cooperation between public service broadcasters, civil society organizations and community media.

Timeframe
The timeframe of the project is January 2019 to December 2020.
